The tall poppy syndrome describes aspects of a culture where people of high status are resented, attacked, cut down, strung up or criticized because they have been classified as superior to their peers.
Your “face” in this context means your “reputation.” It’s representative of the part of you that is first seen (metaphorically) by others, and by which they judge you.
Mañana has been jokingly defined as “anytime between tomorrow and never.” While literally defined as “tomorrow”, the word often is used in the context of doing what matters most to maintain a good quality of life – now.
